American Mud Pumps maintains a quality management system engineered to the standards the global drilling industry requires and independently verified to prove it. Our ISO 9001 certification, DNV certification, and compliance with API Spec Q1, API Spec Q2, API Spec 7K, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 are not credentials we display passively. They define how every pump is specified, how every part is inspected, how every overhaul is planned, and how every shipment is documented. From the moment an order enters our system to the moment equipment reaches a rig floor, controlled processes govern the work, and auditable records prove it was done right.

Operational Excellence: The Foundation of Everything We Build

At American Mud Pumps, operational excellence is not a program or an initiative. It is the foundation our entire business is built on. Every pump we design, every part we source, and every overhaul we perform runs through a management system structured around three core pillars. This framework reflects the same principles that define world-class performance at the energy industry’s leading companies: quality, safety, and continuous improvement, each backed by internationally recognized standards and independently verified processes.

Pillar 1:       Quality Assurance & Compliance

Our first pillar is the quality system itself: the documented, audited processes that govern how we design, manufacture, assemble, inspect, and deliver. AMP’s quality management system is ISO 9001 certified and DNV certified, and maintained in compliance with API Spec Q1, API Spec Q2, and API Spec 7K.

In practice, this means every critical operation at AMP is governed by a standard operating procedure. Our SOPs cover manufacturing and assembly sequences, incoming material inspection, dimensional verification, hydrostatic pressure testing, final acceptance, packaging, and shipment documentation. When a set of liners, pistons, or valve assemblies ships from our facility, every step that produced it is recorded, traceable, and repeatable.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

ISO 9001
Certification

DNV  Certified

ISO 9001 American Mud Pumps

American Mud Pumps holds current ISO 9001 certification, independently audited by DNV, one of the world’s most recognized registrars for quality management systems. This certification covers our full scope of operations: design specification, procurement and supplier qualification, assembly, inspection, testing, and aftermarket support.

What this looks like in daily operations: every product that ships from AMP has a documented inspection history. Every material lot is traceable to its origin. Every supplier is qualified, monitored, and re-evaluated. Every process of change goes through a documented review before implementation. ISO 9001 is not a badge we earned once; it is a system we maintain and improve continuously, verified by DNV on a recurring audit cycle.

API Spec 7K,
Compliant

Drilling and Well Servicing Equipment

Engineering section pic.jpg

API 7K defines the design, manufacture, and testing requirements for equipment used in rotary drilling and well servicing operations. Our pump designs and specifications are developed in accordance with API 7K requirements, including pressure ratings, material specifications, and testing protocols for the reciprocating pumps, fluid ends, and expendable components that form the core of our product line. When a drilling contractor specifies an AMP mud pump, the design package reflects API 7K-level engineering rigor applied to every critical dimension, material selection, and performance rating.

Compliance with these three specifications means our processes, from initial engineering through final delivery and field service, align with the requirements the API sets for organizations manufacturing and servicing equipment for the oil and gas sector. As our operations scale, API certification is a defined objective on our quality roadmap.

Manufacturing

API Q1 establishes the quality system framework for organizations that manufacture products for the petroleum and natural gas industry.

At AMP, this compliance shows up in how we control the design and specification process for our pump lines, how we qualify and audit the manufacturing facilities that produce our equipment, how we conduct in-process and final inspections against documented acceptance criteria. For example, when we release a new triplex or quintuplex mud pump configuration, the engineering review, design verification, and production qualification steps follow a controlled process aligned with API Q1 requirements.

API Spec Q2,
Compliant

Service Supply

API Q2 establishes the quality system framework for organizations that provide services to the oil and gas sector. At AMP, this is where our overhaul and field service operations live. Every Category IV overhaul we perform, whether at our Houston facility or on-site at a client’s location, follows a job-specific quality plan that defines the scope of work, inspection hold points, acceptance criteria, and documentation deliverables.

Our field technicians operate under documented competency requirements, and every service engagement includes a risk assessment before work begins. When we disassemble, inspect, recondition, and reassemble a mud pump power end, the process follows API Q2-aligned service delivery controls from start to finish.

Pillar 2:       Health, Safety & Environmental
                     Stewardship

Our second pillar is the safety of our people and our responsibility to the environments where we operate. AMP’s processes are maintained in compliance with ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems).

Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems

ISO 45001: Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems

Our health and safety practices align with ISO 45001 standards. For our field service teams, this means every overhaul and on-site engagement begins with a job safety analysis (JSA) tailored to the specific scope, location, and hazards involved. Our technicians carry documented competency verifications for high-pressure equipment, complete site-specific safety orientations, and follow AMP’s PPE and hazard communication standards on every job, whether on a land rig in West Texas or an offshore platform in the Middle East.

ISO 14001
Compliant

Environmental Management Systems

Beyond our ISO 9001 certification for quality management, AMP maintains compliance with two additional international management system standards:

ISO 14001: Environmental Management Systems

On the environmental side, our operations follow documented waste management procedures for fluids, metals, and consumables generated during overhaul and repair work. We track regulatory compliance across every jurisdiction we operate in, and we apply resource efficiency practices in our procurement and logistics planning to reduce unnecessary material movement and packaging waste. These are not policies filed in a binder. They are operating requirements enforced on every job, reviewed in every management meeting, and audited on a recurring cycle.

Pillar 3:       Continuous Improvement:
                      A Lean Six Sigma Organization

At American Mud Pumps, continuous improvement is not a slogan on a wall. It is a disciplined, leadership-driven practice embedded in how we operate every day. AMP is a Lean Six Sigma organization, and we apply these principles across our entire business, not only to our products, but to the processes behind them.

Lean Principles

Eliminating Waste

american mud pumps worker.webp

We follow Lean methodology to identify and eliminate waste at every stage of our operations. Our teams apply value stream mapping to trace order-to-delivery workflows and identify bottlenecks. We use 5S workplace organization in our warehouse and staging areas to reduce search time and handling errors. We apply pull-based planning in procurement to align material purchases with actual demand rather than speculative inventory buildup.
For example, when we mapped our expendable parts fulfillment process, we identified redundant handling steps between receiving inspection and final staging that added cycle time without adding value. By restructuring the workflow, we reduced order processing time and improved on-time delivery rates, all without adding headcount. That is Lean in action: not a theoretical exercise, but a measurable change in how the work gets done.

Six Sigma:

Reducing Variation

IMG-20251208-WA0008.jpg

Six Sigma: Reducing Variation
Where Lean targets waste, Six Sigma targets variation. We use the DMAIC framework (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) to identify the root causes of defects, inconsistencies, and process drift, and to implement data-driven corrective actions that hold.

This applies across our operations. When we analyze dimensional data on machined liner bores, we are looking for process capability and statistical consistency, not just pass/fail against a print tolerance. When we track expendable part field performance across different operating environments, we are looking for patterns that tell us where material or design improvements will make the biggest difference. Reducing variation means our customers receive the same level of quality on every order, every time, regardless of volume or geography.

Leadership Commitment

Leadership Commitment

Lean Six Sigma at AMP is not a department initiative or a one-time training exercise. It is a conviction that starts at the top. President and CEO holds a personal commitment to these principles, having built his career at the intersection of quality management systems and operational performance. Under his leadership, AMP has embedded Lean Six Sigma thinking into its organizational culture: from how we evaluate suppliers and qualify new products, to how we plan field service engagements and manage corrective actions.

This is not an abstract philosophy. It shows up in the way we run management reviews, how we track nonconformances, how we train our team, and how we respond when something does not meet the standard. Every member of the AMP team, from engineering to logistics, understands that identifying a problem is not a failure. Ignoring one is.

What This Means for Operators and Drilling Contractors

When you specify American Mud Pumps equipment or source expendable parts, you are working with a supplier whose quality system is structured around the same ISO and API frameworks your own HSE and procurement teams require. That alignment simplifies vendor qualification, reduces audit burden, and ensures the documentation packages we deliver (material test reports, certificates of conformance, dimensional inspection records, and traceability files) meet the standards your operations already follow.
