The Weak Link Just Got Engineered Out
For decades, the bearing inside a mud pump power end has been treated as a commodity — a part sourced from a catalog to fit as many machines as possible. American Mud Pumps is changing that. Today we're introducing DeepRun™, a power-end bearing system engineered position by position for the reciprocating mud pump, and nothing else.
The Problem: A Part That Fails Without Warning
Every stroke of a mud pump reverses the load through the crankshaft, connecting rods, and pinion shaft, thousands of times an hour, in some of the harshest environments on earth. Most premature bearing failures trace back to four compounding causes:
Contamination and lubrication breakdown
Fatigue and spalling from reversing loads
Installation and clearance error
Substandard bearing quality — invisible at receiving, unpredictable in service
That last cause is the most dangerous. A cheap bearing can look identical to a properly engineered one, then fail at a fraction of its rated life. It's the failure mode a spec sheet can't answer, and a catalog supplier can't defend against.
The Solution: A Bearing System, Not a Commodity Part
DeepRun was built by the people who understand the whole pump: engineers who have torn down power ends for generations, seen exactly how loads move and where they concentrate, and put that knowledge into a bearing engineered for one machine, one position, one duty.

The DeepRun Lineup:
Pinion / Input Shaft Bearings — Opposed tapered rollers precisely preloaded to handle combined radial and thrust load from the gear mesh.
Crankshaft Main Bearings — Spherical or tapered roller design engineered to prevent outer-race creep and protect the housing bore.
Connecting-Rod Big-End / Eccentric Bearings — Cylindrical roller bearings built from clean steel with precision heat treatment to survive the hardest fatigue duty in the pump.
Crosshead Wrist Pin Bearings — Multi-row cylindrical roller bearings engineered for the high-load pivot that turns rotation into reciprocating motion.
Engineering Features, Field Results
Every DeepRun feature is designed to translate directly into outcomes on the rig:
Premium Material Selection → Longer service life, better resistance to fatigue and wear under continuous cyclic loading
Precision Manufacturing → Greater reliability through consistent tolerances and balanced load distribution
Advanced Lubrication Engineering → Improved heat management, extended service intervals
Integrated Anti-Rotation Design → Reduced downtime, fewer unexpected bearing-related shutdowns
Combined result: longer service intervals, fewer failures, and a lower total cost of ownership — lifecycle cost, not just purchase price.

"The crankshaft is usually sound. The gears are usually serviceable. The frame outlives everything. The bearings are almost always what ends a pump's run early."
